1. Each artwork is judged based on four categories:

  • Artistry - the overall look and feel of the artwork.
  • Complexity - the detail added and the judges assumption of how much difficulty the artist had creating all elements of finished work
  • Originality - a unique theme, characters, or coloring that makes the artwork standout
  • Realism - how closely elements in the artwork mimic elements from real life

Each category receives a point value and all four points are added together to arrive at a final score.

2. None of the judges are made aware of any other judges' scoring. All judges email their final score to the director of this awards program. At that time the score of all judges is combined and averaged to arrive at a final score and awards are given based on a grade scale.

3. Three awards are offered:

The award for Artistic Excellence is given for artwork scoring in the highest point range.

The award for Artistic Achievement is given for artwork scoring in the median point range.

The Honorable Mention Award is given for artwork that deserves recognition.
